What this does
Lists everything in the archive. Save one file, or extract them all.
What it can’t do
Repair a damaged archive, or open one split across several files.
A worked example
A phone has no app for a .7z file someone sent. Opened here, the two PDFs inside can be saved straight to the phone.
Questions
- Which archives can it open?
- ZIP, 7Z, RAR (versions 4 and 5), TAR, GZ, BZ2 and XZ, and combinations such as .tar.gz.
- Can it open a password-protected archive?
- Yes, if you have the password.
- Is it safe to open an archive from a stranger?
- Looking at the list of files here is safe: nothing in the archive is run. Be careful with what you save and open afterwards, especially programs.
Your file stays on this device
The tool above runs in a sealed frame that cannot send your file anywhere. It works with airplane mode on, and the counter above it stays at 0. Here is how you can check that yourself.
