What this does
Paste subtitles or add a file. The tool recognises which format it is and writes the other one.
What it can’t do
Shift or stretch the timing, or translate.
A worked example
A website’s video player ignores an SRT file. The VTT version shows the captions.
Questions
- Which format do I need?
- Web video players and browsers want VTT. Most desktop players and video editors want SRT.
- Is the timing changed?
- No. Every line keeps its start and end time exactly.
- What happens to formatting?
- Bold, italic and underline are kept. Tags only one format understands, such as SRT font colours or VTT voice labels, are removed or turned into plain text.
Your file stays on this device
The tool above runs in a sealed frame that cannot send your file anywhere. It works with airplane mode on, and the counter above it stays at 0. Here is how you can check that yourself.
